Gadir, Mahmoud


Son of Najma and Ahmad, was born on 30 July 1943 in the village of Bir al-Maqsur in the Nazareth area. He was 7 when his parents separated and he stayed with his little sister at his mother’s. The mother worked and supported her children, but when he was in seventh grade he was forced to go to work and help his mother support the family. He started working at the Netofa house, in the company Mekorot. After that he worked for three years as a tractor operator. Mahmud’s family has been in contact with the state since its establishment, along with the entire Bedouin tribe to which it belonged, and when Mahmoud applied for a job as a civilian in 1966, he was offered a job as a tracker, He reached the rank of sergeant and participated in the Six-Day War, where he served in the army for five years, married Sabha, and in 1971 decided to leave the army and return to civilian life. He was a tractor operator in the Jewish settlements in the Negev and the Golan Heights, but two years later returned to his position as a search fugitive in the IDF, and rose to the rank of sergeant. On June 13, 1980, Mahmoud drove in an army jeep near Palmahim beach. He lost control of the wheel and was killed in a traffic accident. In a letter written by his unit commander to his family after his death, he said: “Avicham served in a reconnaissance unit and was responsible for the safety of many of the residents of Israel who lived near the sea, and he fell near Kibbutz Palmahim in the sector he loved. Professionally and devotedly, while giving up comfort. ” Mahmoud’s nickname was “Abu al-Assad,” after his eldest son, Assad. He was buried in his village Bir al-Maksur. He left behind a wife, five sons and daughters and two parents.
