Gadir, Abd (al-Hamid)


Ben Fida and Salah. Was born on February 27, 1963, in the Bedouin village of Bir al-Maksur, to his twelve-year-old family. He studied at the elementary school in the village and continued his high school studies, but the family’s economic situation forced him to leave school and help the family. Abd al-Hamid was an active man, a figure of leader and initiator, who was admired both by the elders of the village and by the young. He was a lover of hunting, literature and sports, and was aware of the Bedouin tradition and the material culture he sought to preserve. In his modern home in the village, he continued to hold traditional tent accessories as objects of cultural and historical value. He was active in the youth organization of the village and in sports activities, in which he did a horse racing organization and established a soccer team in the village as well as in public, social and cultural activities in order to promote education in the village. His love for nature and his familiarity with the terrain led him to serve in the IDF’s Scouts Unit, as a civilian who works for the IDF. He was drafted into the career army in July 1986 in the Scouts Unit, advanced in the professional field and became a senior platoon sergeant. He was awarded a certificate of honor, and in August 1988 he completed his commander’s course, and Abed fell in the course of his duties on February 24, 1992, in a flood that took place in Nahal Issachar on the way to the site and was laid to rest in his village of Bir al-Maksur. Ten brothers and two sisters – Ahmad, Muhammad, Hassan, Mahmud, Ali, Ibrahim, Nimr, Abdulsalam, Tawfiq, Fatma, Saham, Hussein and Gadeer – in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander described Abed as ” , His dedication and his willingness to fulfill any mission and was among the outstanding officers of the unit, and the commander noted Abed’s contribution to the security of the country, and the head of the General Staff, Major General Ran Goren, A certificate of appreciation for his actions.
