Gad (Gadi) Zamter


Gad (Gadi), son of Naomi and Nathan (Hans), was born on 28.2.1953 in Kfar Saba. He attended the Neveh Kibush Elementary School in Petach Tikvah and later graduated from the YH Brenner High School in Petach Tikvah, Gad was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1971 and volunteered to serve in the paratrooper Nahal Brigade. He was a soldier who was responsible and dedicated to his job, and served as an example of his friends in his good temper and passivity, and his commander testified that he was “modest, always smiling and ready for every mission. A lover of nature who does not miss any opportunity to observe new landscapes, look at plants or take care of animals. “On his release certificate, he wrote to Gad:” Gad is a very good soldier, disciplined, orderly and very devoted. ” During the Yom Kippur War Gad took part in the battles in the Golan Heights. When all the residents of the settlements in the Golan Heights were evacuated, he volunteered to serve as a combat paramedic in one of the armored corps. On the 15th of Tishrei 5734 (October 15, 1973) Gad fell in battle in Tel-Karin. He was injured and wounded and died of his wounds. He was brought to eternal rest in the Petach Tikva cemetery. He was survived by a father, mother and brother. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. His parents and Kibbutz Afik published a pamphlet in his memory entitled “As One of the Grasses, as a Man”, which included the words of friends about his character, memories, lyrics, letters and photographs.
