Gabbay, Shlomo

Son of Penny and Yosef, he was born on October 25, 1963. In 1970, when he was seven years old, he immigrated to Israel with his parents and settled in Holon, where he began to attend elementary school, after which his family moved to Ramat Gan. He continued his studies, first in the Alliance school and later in the engineering school he completed his high school studies. In February 1982 he joined the IDF and served in the Armored Corps, and a few months after completing his basic training, the Peace for the Galilee War broke out. Shlomo left with his unit in Lebanon, and on 22 Elul, September 10, 1982, he was ambushed and killed. He was promoted to corporal. Shlomo was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. He left behind his parents and brother. Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote in a letter of condolence to his parents: “Corporal Shlomo Gabbay gave his life for his homeland, he fell in the Marathon in the Lebanon Valley, in a terrorist ambush.” The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Shlomo joined the company and immediately stood out for his leadership and determination, and he demanded much from himself and his friends and many organizational tasks were placed on his shoulders.”
