Gabbay, David


Son of Rachel and Diner, was born on 13.7.1963 in Moshav Mata in the Judean Hills. David first studied at the Nes Harim Elementary School in Tzur Hadassah, where he moved to the Even HaEzer school in Moshav Nocham, where he studied elementary and high school. He graduated from the school in fine mechanics. David spent his free time working in the family farm. Mostly he liked the job at the chicken coop, but he was familiar with various branches of work, and everyone trusted him. When it was necessary to fix any malfunction in electricity or water pipes, David knew how to overcome it. He liked to play football in his team, was loved by his friends and was active in organizing parties, football games and similar social activities. David also devoted himself to guiding children in the moshav. When he was drafted in 1981 and assigned to serve in the Armored Corps, he was disappointed, but his family, and especially his brothers, convinced him that in every combat unit one could serve the country with dedication, He completed his service in the Armored Corps, and David excelled in his diligence and was promoted to Corporal. “He was one of the best soldiers in the battalion, and his work was like that of a man who worked the land, seriously and thoroughly, as an investment over time,” said his company commanders. During the Peace for Galilee War, David was stationed in the Shuf Mountains with a force that was charged with maintaining quiet in the area. In an exchange of fire between Druze and Christians on December 4, 1982, David was critically injured. He was transferred to Rambam Hospital in Haifa, and on December 6, 1982, died of his wounds, when he was 19 years old when he died, and Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote to his parents after his death: “David was one of the best soldiers in the battalion, Always willing to help others, everyone they knew loved. “David was laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, leaving behind his parents and six brothers and sisters
