Gabbay, Amram

Amram, son of Perla and Joseph, was born on May 23, 1955, in Tiberias, three weeks after his parents came to Israel from Tetouan, in Sephardic Spain, where he moved to Moshav Mata in the Jerusalem corridor. Amram was drafted into the IDF in early 1973 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. After completing basic training, he completed a course in which he was trained as a gunner and a crew member with a moving cannon. He was sent to serve in an artillery battalion in the Golan Heights. In his unit, everyone knew him as a dedicated and disciplined soldier who had performed all the duties assigned to him with precision and perfection. He was accepted by his fellow soldiers for his kindness, his easy nature and his ability to withstand the difficult times of training and operational activity. During the Yom Kippur War, his battalion participated in the battles against the Syrians on the Golan Heights. On October 6, 1973, Amram was killed in the enemy’s attack on his battalion in the Tel-Jukhder area, and was brought to eternal rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem, leaving a mother, four sisters and two brothers.
