Gabai, Menashe


Menashe, their eldest son, was born on February 27, 1951, in Jerusalem. He studied for four years in the religious elementary school “Magen David” in the center of the capital, and completed his elementary studies at the religious branch of the “branch of life”. Afterward he continued his high school studies at the Himmelfarb religious high school and graduated with honors, despite the family’s difficult economic situation and the lack of comfort that a student would seek. Menashe’s seriousness in his studies was remarkable to his parents and teachers alike. He was a quiet, intelligent and hardworking boy. As a student in elementary school, he gave up the children’s games in order to do homework properly. He also excelled at high school and was admired by his teachers. Several times his parents could not afford to buy his textbooks. Family difficulties and difficulties of livelihood weighed on Menashe’s life, but thanks to his diligence in studies and his serious efforts to acquire knowledge, he managed to overcome all obstacles. When Menasseh finished his high school studies in the summer of 1969, the principal of his school offered to continue his studies at the Jerusalem Teachers’ Seminary, and the teachers, headed by the principal, gave Menashe a warm recommendation, but Menashe claimed that he could not continue his studies His duty to the IDF. He was a straight and conscientious boy, aware of the obligation of every adult boy in Israel. In his parents’ home, too, Menashe’s good qualities were revealed, and he helped his family with advice and action and took care of his brothers and sisters. Menashe was active in the Bnei Akiva youth movement and saw it as an exemplary framework for integrating social activity and observance. He participated in trips organized by the movement and participated in sports activities, both in and out of the movement. He also excelled at the basketball game and did not miss an opportunity to participate in a friendly game or a competition for the neighborhood club. During his spare time, he worked in woodworking. He liked creating wooden models and structures and prepared a miniature model of the Western Wall, even before the IDF liberated the Western Wall in the Six-Day War.was a wise and responsible young man, a handsome boy with lively blue eyes, a source of pride and joy for his parents. In late July 1969, he volunteered for the Nahal Brigade, which he says is a direct continuation of activities within the Bnei Akiva religious movement.
