Fry, Shalom


Born on Wednesday, 15.5.1918, in a small village near the town of Strombso, Galicia, Poland, he studied in the elementary school in his hometown, and during World War II the entire family was exterminated by the Nazis and fled to Russia alone. After the Stalin-Sikorski agreement, a Polish army was established in Russia, and Shalom joined him and arrived in Israel with the Polish army on Rosh Hashana 5703 (1943). He moved to Israel in order to get to know him and finally settled in Kfar Sava, where he worked as a laborer until the day he enlisted in the IDF. After the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the army, served in the Alexandroni Brigade, and took part in the battles, and fell on Wednesday, 6 November 1948, in a battle near Basra. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
