Frish, Yehoshua (“Shaya”)
Yehoshua, son of Mendel and Mindel Frish, was born on the 24th of Tammuz (July 12, 1947) in the city of Eichstadt, Germany. The family immigrated to Israel in 1948 and his father was immediately recruited to serve in the War of Independence and later served in the Sinai Campaign. Yehoshua was drafted into the IDF in February 1966 and served with great devotion as a tank gunner. He then passed a course of tank commanders and graduated cum laude. He participated in the Samu battle, as well as in operations against the Syrian army. While he was in regular service, the Six-Day War broke out and on the first day of the battles, on 26 June 1967, he was hit by a sniper and died; it was in a battle in Rafah. He was buried in the military emergency cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
