Friedmann, Mordechai


Son of Aharon and Esther. He was born on the 5th of Av 5709 (1949) in Tel Aviv and attended the Pardes Elementary School in Ramat Yitzhak and continued for one year at the Dvir high school in Ramat Gan, where Mordechai was forced to leave high school Due to the poor economic situation at home, he was accepted to work at Bank Leumi, but he did not neglect his studies completely and continued in the evening, after a day’s work, and was a soccer player in the Beitar youth team. He had a sensitive and poetic soul and wrote many poems especially in light of the Six-Day War. Mordechai joined the IDF in mid-August 1968 and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade. Among the combat operations he participated in as part of regular service was the raid on the island of Shadan. After leaving regular service he was hired at Black & Decker and in the evening he studied bookkeeping at the Ginat school. In August 1972, Mordechai was called up for reserve duty and during his service was seriously injured. About two weeks later, he lay in Rambam Hospital and died on the 12th of Tishrei 5733 (12.9.1972). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He laid a pregnant wife. His daughter, born two weeks later, fell, carrying his name – Metty. In a letter of condolence sent by his commander to the widow, he wrote: “Corporal Motti Friedman served for a short time in the battalion but managed to stand out in his ability and energy and become one of the best soldiers in every mission he is required to perform.”
