Friedmann, Jacob


Son of Pesachia and Chaim, Holocaust survivors. He was born in Rishon Le Zion on June 13, 1952. He began his education at the Remez elementary school in Rishon Letzion where he studied for three years and at the age of eight his family moved to Jerusalem and Yaakov continued his elementary studies at the Luria School And was a graduate of the “Beit Hinuch” high school in the biological track, where his students wrote the letter of the seniors to then prime minister Golda Meir, and in 1966 his older brother Shmaryahu drowned. He aspired to serve as a pilot in the air force, but because of a flaw in his eyes, he was disqualified from flying. Yaakov received a series of courses in weapons systems and field artillery, and received high grades, especially in training and topography, and in November 1971, he completed a course for class commanders as an outstanding trainee and was promoted to Corporal. At the same time he was injured in a road accident, was hospitalized and recovered from his injuries and returned to serve in his unit. In July 1973, at the end of his regular service, Yaakov was discharged from the IDF with the rank of sergeant: “His behavior is very good. A dedicated and loyal soldier, honest and enterprising. After completing his BA in biology, he moved to the Technion in Haifa where he completed his studies in 1978 and received a master’s degree in food engineering and biotechnology, while working for a short period on Israeli television and as a Hebrew teacher in an American studio. He began working as a food engineer at the Shemen factory, and the highlight of his work was his part in a project to produce Tarkarotan from the Donalella Acceleration, which accompanied the project from its inception for about ten years, contributed to the difficulties and was largely responsible for the success of the project. In 1977, Yaakov married Michaela and the two established their home in Kiryat Motzkin, where their four children were born: Tali-Mor, Tomer-Shmuel, Erez-Mordecai, and Yael, who loved to live and was a warm, Haim, who saw in the family unit the purpose of giving, was a husband, father, son and model brother, devoted much to the home, loved to build and do everything with his own hands – from electrical repairs and washing machines to the construction of a table and chairs for his eldest daughter, Tali-Mor. Bass and participated in the representative choir of the Shemen factory. In his spare time he played chess, bridge and volleyball. At the beginning of March 1988, Yaakov was drafted into reserve duty. On March 18, 1988, his wife knelt down and, with the approval of his master, Jacob went to Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where he helped her to give birth to their fourth daughter, Yael, on his way back from the hospital to the base. And his daughter, Yael, was named after him (Yaakov was nicknamed Yankele), and Yaakov was laid to rest in the military section of the Tzur Shalom cemetery, where Raya Michaela left two daughters, Tali-Mor and Yael, Tomer-Shmuel and Erez-Mordechai, parents and sister – Dalia.
