Friedman, Eliezer-Yehezkel
Son of Moshe Yosef. Born in 1908 in the town of Vysoky-Mazowieck in Poland to a family of Hassidim and Bnei Torah, in 1920, his father was murdered by the Russians and Eliezer, who was then a young boy, was forced to support the family. He was active in the Land of Israel and immigrated to Palestine in 1938. After arriving in Palestine for a few months, he organized a group of illegal immigrants in Kfar Sirkin. At work and in Israel as a scholar, cultural man and book. Despite the great suffering he experienced in his life, he remained optimistic, smiling and with a sense of humor that helped him and his friends in the difficult moments, and all his acquaintances recognized him as an honest man, a man who pursues justice and peace. He volunteered for the Guard Corps and did his duty for four years, and was not deterred by any mission that involved great danger and was the first volunteer to take part in the operation, and was also active in the field of culture. On 3 Adar II, 6.3.1946, he was hit by a bullet and then died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery. He left a wife and a brother. Things about his character and his work were published in the journal of the Hebrew Guardians Force, in the book “Vysoki-Mazowieck” and in the newspapers Davar and Haaretz.
