Friedkin, David

David, son of Tzippora and Yisrael Freidkin, was born in 1929 in Tel Aviv. From the age of 14 he was active in the Gadna. David served in the Givati Brigade in the Nachshon operations, and again in another battalion in the activities of Maccabi to open the road to Jerusalem and later in battles against the Egyptian army in the south. David took part in Operation Philistine, the attack on the Egyptian column in Ashdod. The attacking forces reached the deployment points, but were ordered to return because of the possibility that the truce would take effect that night. When it became clear that there was no agreement on a truce, the forces returned and attacked it on the night of June 2-3, 1948. The attacking forces encountered strong enemy fire and were forced to withdraw. David fell on 25 Iyar, 3.6.1948, and was buried in the military cemetery in Kfar Varburg.
