Fried, Meir (Meirchik)


Meir, son of Hanna and Zvi Fried, was born on March 26, 1929 in Poland. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel with his parents who settled in Bnei Brak. He joined the Haganah at the age of 15. After the War of Independence, he volunteered and served in the Alexandroni Brigade, took part in an operation in the Pardes Abu Laban, Tarif, etc. Meir was killed in a patrol operation on 18 Kislev, December 20, 1948 near Khirbet Susika, south of Beit Guvrin. His body was not found and a memorial was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
