Frenkel, Yoel (Chia)
Son of Kathleen and Abraham, was born on February 28, 1926 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Completed primary school and 4 high school classes. From an early age, he belonged to the Habonim youth movement and devoted his best energies and spare time to it. He studied and worked in the tanning profession. He loved sports and hierba in touring. In 1944 he was taken by the Nazis to forced labor and sent to the copper mines of Yugoslavia. When the partisans arrived at the site, he was liberated from the camp and moved to Romania, and from there he immigrated to Israel in 1945. He joined a training group on the Kinneret and was among the settlers of Ein Zeitim. Shortly before the War of Independence he left the kibbutz, went to Haifa and settled in work at the port. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he was among the first to join the ranks of the defenders of the Yishuv and completed a course for squadrons, participated in the battles of Ramat Yohanan and the conquest of Haifa, and was promoted to Brigade 7. He participated in Operation son of-Nun Bet, the second attack on the Legion In an attempt to break through the road to Jerusalem, was attacked by the Latrun police and fell in battle on May 30, 1948. On the 11th of Kislev 5710 (11.11.1949), he was buried with his comrades in battle, In a grave in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, he was promoted to lieutenant.
