Freiber, Elisha (Eliushka)

Son of Rachel and Chaim, was born on July 15, 1928 in Israel. He studied at the Montefiore Technical School in Tel Aviv and worked as a sketcher at Shikun. He was a member of the “HaNoar HaOved” organization and stayed in the hachshara in Caesarea. Elisha worked for a year as a fisherman in the Caesarea shipyard and in the Tel Aviv port. He was active in Hapoel as a naval instructor and was salt in the Dead Sea. Was a member of the Haganah and joined the Palmach, and upon the outbreak of the War of Independence he joined the army and was sent to a squad commanders’ course. Two months later he received a training class and went to a course in Delia. He participated in the Battle of Mishmar Ha’emek. Commanded a platoon called “The Revival” in Petah Tikva and moved with it to Jaffa. After her release she was appointed commander of the navy unit. Graduated with honors from the officers’ machine-gun course, moved to Haifa and guided a group of friends. Elisha excelled in his talents in mechanics and graphics, and left behind many works that are now used as teaching materials at the Montefiore School. On September 19, 1948, he died on his ship. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. After he fell, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant.
