Frank, Rafael (Rafa)

Son of Hanna-Henrietta and Yitzchak (Alfred) was born on January 1, 1925, in Berlin, Germany, to parents who were active in the Zionist movement in Germany and was educated in a Hebrew kindergarten 1933. In Israel he completed his studies at the Yagur school and joined the Palmach. After his service, he remained as a member of Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov and worked as a tractor operator. When the new settlement began in the Negev, Hakibbutz Hameuchad decided to send members to help them, and Raphael was among those who went south and came to Kibbutz Be’eri. When the days of the battle began and saboteurs were demanded, he left for the course and was assigned to the mining of the agriculture. On the 16th of Iyar 5708 (16.5.1948), he was killed during the mine action, while he was walking recklessly on one of the landmines he had laid down and brought to rest in the cemetery in Beri.
