Forsher, Peretz

He was born in Poland in Silesia, Poland in 1920. After completing his studies, he joined a Bnei Akiva Zionist training group in the Czech Republic, and when he was captured by the Germans he fled to Poland and joined the Hashomer Hadati movement. He later moved to Vilna where he served as the movement’s emissary and assisted in the transfer of Jews from Poland occupied by the Germans to Lithuania. His knowledge of the Russian language and his knowledge of the transit routes helped him in doing so. When he requested permission to immigrate to Palestine, the Russians agreed to join the PKK for espionage for the Soviet Union. Shortly after his arrival, Peretz enlisted in the British army, in order to avoid fulfilling his commitment to the Russians, serving in the company of drivers in the transport corps, first sent to the Sinai Desert and then transferred to the European front. On 29 Cheshvan (15.11.1944) Peretz was killed in the course of his duty in a car accident in Italy. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Arezzo on the island Lia.
