Formet, Dov (Doba)


Son of Bella and Isaac, was born on February 23, 1932 in Haifa. After completing elementary school, he went to work. He specialized in frameworks and worked in a factory. He was a member of Hanoar Haoved and spent some time in the kibbutz. During his free time he was active in sports, and belonged to a football team of Hapoel youth in Haifa. From his youth he was a member of the Haganah. When he enlisted in the Oded Brigade during the War of Independence he went to the Galilee and participated in battles in Safed, Ramot Naftali and Hulit. Dov fell in Malkia when he was hit by a round of enemy bullets on 27 Iyar 5708 (June 5, 1948). His body was not found and he was considered missing in battle. A monument in his memory was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem in an area for those whose burial place is unknown.
