Fogel, Yehuda (Leib)

Yehuda, son of Dvora and Avigdor Fogel, was born in 1922 in Ba’ayush Ba’alanash, Transylvania (Romania). He served in the Romanian army and in 1944 immigrated to Israel. On the 3rd of Tammuz (July 10, 1948) in the battle on the Gilboa, he hurried with his comrades to cover their commander from the line of fire, and in this battle he fell. On the day of his death, his parents came from Cyprus to the port of Haifa, and in the same newspaper issue announcing their arrival, the death notice appeared. Six weeks later his body was taken to its eternal resting place at Kibbutz Ein Harod.
