Fodor Tzvi
Son of Adele and Moshe, was born on 13.4.1921 in the city of Pforzheim, Germany. He first studied in a Christian school. When he was 13, he moved to a Hebrew school and completed ten classes. As a member of the Habonim youth movement, he worked for two years in agricultural training with a Jewish family. In 1937 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and worked as a sailor in the Lahat factory. In 1939 he joined the Haganah. In 1942 he joined the British Army. He served first in the Engineers Corps in North Africa and later in the Jewish Brigade in Italy, Holland and Belgium. After being released in 1946, he returned to his previous job. After about a year he was drafted into the army and assigned to one of the “Carmeli” regiments, and participated in all the battalion’s operations in the Western Galilee. After stopping the invasion of the Jordan Valley, our forces took the initiative and attacked the Gilboa area. After gaining control of the Gilboa ridge, the Carmeli Brigade attacked Jenin on the night of June 2-3 and occupied the outposts controlling the city. The Iraqi army, which had moved to Samaria after its failure in the Jordan Valley, concentrated its forces and counterattacked. In this battle he fell on the 3rd of Iyar 5708 (June 3, 1948). When he served as a squad commander in one of the extremist positions. On the 1 st of Av 5711 (3.8.1950) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
