Flavner, Shalom


Son of Rivka and Chaim, was born on 19.1.1928 in Lodz, Poland. When the city was occupied by the Nazis in World War II, he was transferred to a concentration camp in Germany. When he was liberated by the Red Army, his health was extremely precarious. Shalom recovered, his youth stood, and he immigrated to Israel as part of Youth Aliyah. In 1946 he was educated in Kibbutz Alonim. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he joined the campaign and served in the Oded Brigade. He first fought in the Negev (where he won a medal) and then in the Galilee. Shalom fell during a tour near Tarshiha on the 28th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 28, 1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. He was about to marry.
