Fishzon, Gedalyahu
Gedalyahu, son of Feiga and Zvi Fishzon, was born in 1905 in Warsaw, Poland. He attended school and became a butcher. During the Second World War, Gedalyahu was dragged to Uzbekistan and drafted into the Red Army. After liberation he tried in any way to immigrate to Israel. Gedalyahu was one of the passengers of the ship “Exodus” who were returned to Germany and he finally arrived in Israel on February 14, 1948. Gedalyahu volunteered to work in the Manshiyeh neighborhood, where he was killed by a shell, along with some of his friends who worked in the fortifications, on the 20th of Nissan, April 29, 1948, about two and a half months after his arrival in Israel. Gedalyahu was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife and a son.
