Fishman, Nachum
Son of Ita and Jacob was born on 29.2.1924 in Arad, Transylvania. His dream came true and his parents immigrated to Israel on December 28, 1947. Nachum was dedicated to the Haganah and wanted to avenge his brother. Nachum volunteered for the army at the outbreak of the War of Independence, served in the Alexandroni Brigade and participated in the battles of Jaffa and Arabic Kfar Saba. He was transferred to the religious company and fought in Tantura, Igzim, Kola and Wilhelma. From there, his unit moved south. During “horev” Operation, a “liquidation” operation was carried out against the “Faluja pocket,” in which an Egyptian brigade was besieged. The attack took place on the eastern flank of the “pocket” in the area of Iraq al-Manshiyya. The Alexandroni forces broke into the village from the south and took over part of it, but their assault on the hill north of the village was repulsed. Meanwhile, the Egyptians recovered and attacked and forced our forces to withdraw. Part of the force was trapped inside the village. In this battle, Nachum fell on the 26th of Kislev 5709 (December 28, 1948). He was buried in Faluja. On the 17th of Kislev 5710 (8.12.1949) he was transferred and laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
