Fisher, Gideon

Son of-Eliezer and Martha. He was born on February 19, 1954 in Kibbutz Parod. He studied at the local elementary school and graduated from the Sulam Tzur Regional School in the Western Galilee. As a child he was a curious child who wanted to know everything. He has an active and energetic temperament. He had a sense of mechanics. He knew how to fix everything. He also worked in the cotton industry during his studies at the school. Learn drivers and pass the driving test for the first time. He would go out alone with a car for the cotton shift. As a native of the kibbutz he had deep roots and even planned his life on the farm and how he would fit into the cotton industry. After returning from service in the IDF Gideon was drafted into the IDF in early 1973, immediately after the Yom Kippur War, and volunteered to serve in an elite combat unit. He underwent several courses, including a tour course and a commander’s course, and was awarded the rank of Corporal. Gideon lived intensively in the life of his unit and was involved in all its activities. His comrades in the unit said that he was “of exceptional quality, strength and security.” “Fisher was found to have solid and established views on all matters of life” – Fischer had an opinion on every subject, he did not hesitate to say it, even if it was not particularly popular. He loved life as much as he could. He loved to dance folk dances, listen to good old songs, travel in Israel and the world, and just small matters of gray routine, he used to shout and shout whenever he felt like it … safe on his way and on his own … On the 14th of Av 5735 22.7.1975) Gideon fell in the line of duty – he is 21 and a half years old. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in his kibbutz Parod. Survived by his parents and two sisters. His classmates in Kibbutz Farud published in his memory a memorial booklet called Gideon containing memoirs about Gideon from the nannies, classmates, friends of the unit, his mother and father. In one of the letters published in the booklet it was said: “Gideon almost always had a smile on his face, it was a distant smile, a bit strange, and it was a mockery.” His commander wrote: “I believe that parents who succeeded in instilling in Gideon such emotional strength must also find the strength to learn to live with the terrible fate that has befallen them, us and the entire unit.”
