Fisher, Avraham (Guri)


Son of Chaya-Rachel and Emil (Menachem) was born in August 1929 in the city of Chungrad, Hungary. He studied at an elementary school in the city of Santsh and because of the difficult economic situation in his parents’ home he studied tailoring while he was still young and supported his parents. During the Second World War, after the Germans took control of Hungary, he escaped the death carriages and after many wanderings arrived in Belgium in 1946, and from there to Palestine as part of the Youth Aliyah. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he immediately volunteered for the ranks of the defenders of the Jewish settlements and with the establishment of the Israel Defense Forces he enlisted in the Carmeli Brigade and participated actively in battles in the north of the country. Participated in Operation Brosh – the attempt to destroy the Syrian bridgehead in the Mishmar Hayarden area. In the fierce battles in this sector, he fell on the 3rd of Tammuz 5707 (July 10, 1948.) He was brought to rest with his comrades in a grave in the military cemetery in Rosh Pina
