Finton, Jeffrey

Son of Yosef and Sarah. He was born in London, England, on the 19 th of July 1937. He completed his elementary and high school studies in his hometown and continued his studies at the West College College of Technology. He worked fourteen years in laboratory work. He was a sociable young man who had good relations with young people, worked as a guide in a Jewish club in London and did a lot for the youth. He had athletic talents and excelled in handicrafts, especially in carpentry. For a long time, his young friends enjoyed the little dinghy he built for them. After the Six-Day War, he immigrated to Israel and here he used his talent as a carpenter, after he established his home in Israel and worked in furniture manufacturing. He greatly appreciated everything related to knowledge and education and loved to read books, especially on social issues. Each new book was a source of great pleasure and interest. He liked to meet people and talk with them, thereby expanding and deepening his understanding of the human psyche and the essence of life. He studied Hebrew at an ulpan in Be’er Sheva, where he also met his future wife. After completing the course in Ulpan he worked for two years at the Negev Research Institute and contributed greatly to his work both as a qualified chemist and as a human being. During this period, his love for Israel grew and deepened, and he became interested in and deepened his political, economic and social problems. He was convinced that only in this country was it appropriate to bring children into the world and educate them as Jews in a Jewish state. In 1969 he moved to Jerusalem and began working for a chemical company. Jeffrey was drafted into the IDF in July 1971. On 4 December 1971, before he could serve his country and his people, he sat in their midst and loved them. He left a wife, Naomi, and son of Oren, who was not yet seven months old. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. A scholarship was given to the student at the Alice Salisberg School in Jerusalem by the company, the source of the chemicals in which he worked, and the Endowment Fund in his name was established at Hadassah College in Jerusalem by his wife, family and friends in Israel and abroad.
