Finkowitz, Ephraim


Son of Rivka and Israel, was born in July 1922 in the city of Galatas, Romania. In 1943, he traveled from Romania to his destination, Eretz Israel. On the way he wandered, he stole the borders of Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Greece. At last he was caught, imprisoned in a prison on the border of Yugoslavia and released after great suffering. In 1946, he managed to reach Italy and came to Israel on the “Wedgwood” ship. In Palestine he sat in the illegal immigrant camp at Atlit and was later released. His pleasant temperament liked him for people and he acclimatized himself with surprising ease. Efraim studied the building and lived in Herzliya. He married and founded a family nest. From the day he immigrated to Israel, he was an active member of the Haganah and served in the Hagai until the outbreak of the War of Independence, when he joined the Carmeli Brigade on June 10, 1948. Two hours after the first truce, After a close face-to-face battle with the members of the “Rescue Army” of Kaukji. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula. He left a wife, a favor, and a daughter who was born after his death. His brother Gershon fell two weeks before him near Kfar Warburg.
