Finkel, Yitzhak


Born in 1904 in Rakov, a small town on the Russian-Polish border, at the age of seventeen he lost his parents and his family’s livelihood was placed on his shoulders, For a while he worked as an individual, then joined the Tel Hai group in the Upper Galilee and worked there in various industries. In 1926 he reached Tel Yosef and began working regularly as one of the first shepherds in the valley. He took part in guarding, as did the local people. A hard-working, dedicated man who was simple and popular in his walk and honest. On the 20th of Tammuz, June 28, 1930, when he went to the Tel Aviv vineyard, he was ambushed and killed, and was brought to rest in Tel Yosef near the spring at the foot of the Gilboa. He is remembered in the History of the Yishuv, and in the” Yizkor “booklet for the people of the Gilboa region.
