Finger, Ze’ev (Zevalle)


Son of Mina and Reuvein, was born on the 1st of Adar 2, March 5, 1927, in the village of Zichron Yaakov. After completing his studies at the elementary school in Haifa, he decided to dedicate himself to work, and studied the electrical profession, in the evening. He was a member of Bnei Akiva, and the religious sports organization, Elitzur. He later joined the Haganah. He served in the “Carmeli” Brigade. He was beloved by his friends because of his modesty, and his love for others. He was involved in the battles of the Lower Galilee, Kibbutz Gesher, the Massada group, the Degania group and the Kinneret group, as well as the activities of Jaba, near Haifa, to open the Tel Aviv-Haifa road. On th 3rd of Sivan, June 10, 1948, when the unit was in a difficult battle against the attacking Syrians, and its people thirsty for water, he volunteered to go out to fetch water for his friends, and succeeded in his mission. When he saw later that the water had run out in the isolated outpost, and his friends were falling out, he volunteered again and died on the way. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
