Fermotti, Gabriel (Gabi)
Son of Henrietta Vittorio. He was born on September 29, 1967 in Jerusalem. Gabi attended the Brenner Elementary School and the Herzliya Municipal High School in a theoretical-historical track. When Gabi was 16 years old, his father died. He felt a great responsibility for his mother and younger brothers. He loved rock music and was interested in history. In February 1986, Gaby was drafted into compulsory military service in the IDF and was stationed in the Armored Corps. He completed basic training, went on to study the tank subjects, and went on to train the platoon commanders, not long after he was appointed to the tank commanders’ course. His commander noted that Gabi had performed all the tasks in a good and very modest manner. His comrades in the unit told of Gabi’s great intelligence while serving in the territories. Later in his service, Gabi was summoned to an officer’s exam. On the 5th of Adar 5748 (February 22, 1988) Gabi fell in the line of duty when he was hit by a roadside bomb in southern Lebanon. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Herzliya. Survived by his mother, sister Michal and brother Eran. His friends from his youth described Gabi as a “peace-loving man” and very serious. He was considered the most close friend, and indeed he had many friends and friends. The commander of the unit wrote to the bereaved family: “When the battalion was assigned the task of defending the northern settlements, it was natural that the best commanders would be assigned to the task. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, then-defense minister Yitzhak Rabin wrote: “Sergeant Gabriel Framutti gave his life to his homeland, he was an excellent soldier, and he performed the tasks he was assigned in the best possible manner.
