Son of Zvi and Ayala. He was born on the 30th of March 1937 in Tel Aviv. After completing his studies in five departments of the municipal high school, D. moved to the Kadouri Agricultural School and completed his studies there. He traveled a lot and toured the country, and it seemed that his turbulent spirit found relief in this. But it was not the wanderer who drove him on his trips and tours, because he believed and felt that it was impossible to be a good citizen without knowing the homeland, without feeling any clod and every stone in it. Close to fifty “private” trips, except for those tours he took part in the military framework, and his diary, filled with descriptions of landscapes, plants and experiences, attests to a keen eye and great alertness to all around him. He was also an outstanding athlete and excelled at playing basketball. His participation in the Kinneret crossing in 1955 was the climax of his sports activities. He also participated in the four-day march in 1956. After his enlistment in the IDF in August 1955, he participated in several combat operations and was injured in Qalqiliya, because he was not allowed to participate in the Sinai Campaign and as a parachutist, he was unable to land in the Mitla. He left the hospital where he had been since the Battle of Qalqiliya and went down to Sinai, walking on foot to Santa Katerina, and two weeks later he made his way to Sinai. Out of a sense of security and the feeling that he had found his place, he had begun his training. He was respectable to his students because of the gravity with which he did his work and his subordinates even loved him, for he was close to them and ready to come to their aid when necessary.
