Feldstein, Yosef (Egon)

Son of Aryeh and Gisela. He was born on September 29, 1929 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. He immigrated with his family on the ship “Patria” in 1938. He graduated from elementary school, continued his evening classes at the vocational school in the name of Maxine Fein and later at the “Zevulun” maritime school. Before the establishment of the State of Israel, Yosef served on a ship on the line between the Arab countries and Europe. Upon the establishment of the state, he deserted his ship in England, and therefore was put in jail there. After the intervention of the Jewish Agency, he was released from his prison and enlisted in the IDF in May 1948 and continued to serve in the Navy On March 28, 1950, he served in the navy with the ship Massada near the shores of the Sea of ​​Galilee, Italy after the ship sailed to Portugal – and its corpse was not found. A monument in his memory was erected in the missing-persons section of the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. To commemorate his name, the Zebulun maritime school, where he studied, called the name “Yosef Feldstein” one of his dedication. The ship “Hashlosha”, which a few years ago was devoured not far from the coast of Italy and all its passengers perished, was named after two of his friends who disappeared at sea after their ship “Massada” sank nearby. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
