Feinstein, Hanoch (Henich)

Hanoch, son of Miriam and Marco, was born on November 2, 1953, in Durban, Romania, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1963. He studied in an elementary school in Romania and in Israel and attended the Bialik schools in Acre, And the “Arava” in Holon and the school at Kibbutz Gilad. Afterward, he continued his studies at the regional high school in the Western Valley, where he reached the end of the eleventh grade in the real world and took an external matriculation exam in the framework of the “Michelle” school. Hanoch was an outstanding student. Even in his childhood in Romania, he was awarded the red tie, awarded to the best student in his class. After his family immigrated to Israel, she first lived in Acre and then moved to Holon. He, therefore, had to study in several schools. After his father’s death, he was sent to Kibbutz Gilad and was educated there as part of the Youth Aliyah. From the school, they sent him to study in mathematics and physics in the gifted classes at the Technion in Haifa, the nuclear reactor in Nahal Sorek and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot. When he felt that he was not satisfied with what he was learning at the kibbutz school, he returned to his family in Holon and completed his matriculation exams. He also wrote a number of papers in the framework of the departments he participated in. Hanoch was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing basic training for armored personnel carriers, he was assigned to the armored corps unit that served on the banks of the Suez Canal. According to his friend, Hanoch paid no attention to his appearance as a soldier, but as a warrior, he was always among the good. In the fire exercises, he would attack and hurt, and also help those in difficulties with the exercise and their encouragement. He always volunteered for every job. According to his friend in the company, Hanoch had a “Golden heart”. He was a good friend, and always helped his friend, who was alone in the country, lent him money without asking when he would return and would help him as much as he could in training. However, he was withdrawn and largely secluded; He did not have many friends in his company. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was stationed at the “TV” post in the central sector of the Suez Canal. Hanoch took part in the difficult battle to defend the outpost, and on October 7, 1973, the armored personnel carrier attacked the attacking Egyptian forces. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a mother and brother. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Hanoch was a good soldier who performed his duty to the satisfaction of his commanders and was loved by his comrades. The Arava School in Holon dedicated a memorial corner to the memory of another former student of the school; An internal booklet of his company, Hermesh, dated November 1972, published a list of his figure.
