Feingold, Yehuda


Son of Ida and Hertz, was born on the 13 th of June 1931 in Tel Aviv. From his childhood he tended to public activity. After completing elementary school, he joined the Tehiya youth club in the Montefiore neighborhood of Tel Aviv and was one of its leaders. From there he went on to instruct youth. Yehuda worked in his father’s workshop as a tramp-trainee and bore the burden of responsibility for supporting the house. Since 1945, he underwent training and participated in all types of service of the Gadna (conspiring, affixing flyers, etc.), while he was apprehended by British policemen and imprisoned for three days for being a minor. “A. In July 1947, he completed a Gadna training course in Juara, trained a Gadna class and took up the post of lieutenant colonel in Gadna in February 1948. He was also active in SHAI (the Haganah Intelligence Service). In addition to these duties, he took part in guarding, on a weekly basis, at the positions on the Jaffa-Tel Aviv border, even before the draft order was published. Yehuda received special appreciation from his commander. He was a fair-haired young man with a keen look and strong will. Straight-thinking. His speech was cordial, considerate, persuasive, punctual, disciplined, responsible and dedicated – all of which he demanded of himself and others. In his humble way of life he served as a model for his apprentices and subordinates. In mid-February 1948, after finishing a special course for the radio operators, he went to battle for the first time in the ranks of the “Kiryati” Brigade and acted as an electrician in Abu Kabir. After two weeks he was sent to the village of Salameh and fell near the village on the 29th of Adar 5708 (29.2.1948). He was laid to rest at the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
