Mendy, son of Zvia and Reuven, was born on April 1, 1948, in Iasi, Romania, and immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1965. He studied in an elementary school in Romania and later continued his studies in a high school in Romania And in the “Kiryat Hayim High School” in Kiryat Haim, in the real sector. Mandy was a very talented boy and all his years in school he was the best student in his class. He was also active in the company and was a football fan. When he immigrated to Israel, he lived with his parents in the Kiryat Haim transit camp, studied at an ulpan in Merhavia and graduated from high school. He learned Hebrew with astonishing speed, and soon became part of the class, both academically and socially. From his youth he read a lot, and especially loved literature and poetry. Sometimes he even wrote lyrical poems, including many devoted to his wife. He was kind and patient and knew how to understand the souls of people. He was intelligent, very honest, orderly, responsible and serious. He was clearly gifted with special talents and excellent perception. It was enough for him to read complicated material once, and he would have understood it in depth. He was a very popular person and had many friends. Mendy was drafted into the IDF in late August 1967 and assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing his tank training course in Patton, he served as a tank gunner in the Armored Corps, and after completing his tank commander course, he was sent to an officer’s course. He was trained as a commander of a tank division in a reconnaissance battalion, and was later assigned to a different armored corps in the same position, and was later promoted to lieutenant, serving as substitute Deputy commander of a tank company and participated in the battles of the War of Attrition in the Suez Canal. His commanders in this battalion saw him as an excellent, independent officer with a lot of initiative and professional knowledge, who fulfilled his duties efficiently and with dedication, and noted that he was self-confident and well-versed in pressure, disciplined, fair and loyal and above-normal leadership. He served for two months in the regular army until the school year began at the Technion, and he was a very good officer who had good working relations and performed all his functions with great success and success. In 1970, after completing his regular service, he began studying mechanical engineering at the Technion in Haifa, where he was an excellent student and did well in his studies, even though he spent a lot of time on social activities in the Association He was a member of the Internal Affairs Committee and was elected to serve as vice chairman of the Technion’s Student Union, and was elected Vice Chairman in 1972. On October 21, 1973, the “Chinese Farm” hit many enemy soldiers in short-range combat, under heavy artillery fire and Egyptian infantry attacks, and fought courageously and wisely and was able to inspire great confidence in its men.
