He was drafted into the IDF in early November 1970 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training, he paid a tank training course and was sent to serve in a unit of the armored corps in the Sinai. After a period of service, he was sent to a tank commanders course, and after successfully completing his service he returned to serve in the Sinai as a tank commander. Meir was an outstanding soldier and an excellent professional. He fulfilled his duties with precision and perfection, and his commanders and Ehud accepted his comrades in the unit. Thanks to his excellence in carrying out the tasks assigned to him, he was appointed sergeant sergeant and promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.
