Fashigarsky, Moshe (Monique)

Son of Fela and Abraham, was born in 1918 in Poland, and in 1935, when he was 17, immigrated to Israel. He graduated from elementary school abroad. Moshe had a strong body and strong muscles and worked in Israel as a construction worker, mainly as a scaffold. His main interest was in sports. He excelled in swimming, boxing, and especially cycling, and won several international awards. He aspired to leave the country and devote himself entirely to sport. Because of his athletic leanings, he did not join the Hagana at the time and did not become involved in the country. When he enlisted, he served in the Carmeli Brigade and became a fighter in recognition. His athletic skills were to be a good soldier, and his general human ideal – the liberation of oppressed peoples wherever they may be – was united with the national ideal of liberating the homeland. Moshe fell in battle on Sejera on June 10, 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
