Farzig, Ofer


Son of Adina and Mordechai. Born on December 15, 1965 in Haifa. He began his studies at the Dinur Elementary School in Neve Sha’anan in Haifa, studied in the junior high school in Kiryat Haim, and continued with the mechanical program at the Kiryat Haim high school. Ofer was active in the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement and joined the Nekrot group in preparation for his enlistment in the IDF, and in the middle of September 1984 he was drafted into the IDF. On the 14th of Shevat 5746 (14.1.1986), Ofer fell during his service and was laid to rest at the military cemetery on the Carmel coast in Haifa. Survived by his parents, two brothers – Avi and Adi and sister Anat. He was twenty years old when he died. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote, among other things: “Ofer was a combat soldier in our unit, a Nahal battalion. During this period he served in the Nimrod outpost on the Hermon side, a settlement that combines and symbolizes settlement and security. Ofer stood out for his vitality and activism, especially in the social and cultural spheres. He contributed a great deal to his comrades in the Nekarot nucleus and to the soldiers in the settlement. Ehud and accepted by everyone was. In every society there are few activists who attract their friends and carry the burden of doing to others and society. Ofer was one of those few. These days he was about to arrive at the parachuting Nahal Brigade and fulfill the aspiration of every proud Nachla’i to prove his ability to withstand difficult challenges, and I am sure that Ofer would stand proudly representing all members of the Nekarot nucleus. ” (This page is part of the Yizkor memorial project held by the Ministry of Defense)
