Farr (Fathi), Pinchas

Pinchas, son of Victoria and Yechezkel, was born in 1940 in Basra, To the coast of Sat-al-Arab in southern Iraq. After completing his fourth year of elementary school, he went to study at the Alliance Jewish school in his hometown. In 1951, at the age of eleven, he immigrated to Israel with his family and completed his elementary studies at Kibbutz Yakum. Afterward, he continued his studies at the Max-Fine vocational school in Tel Aviv. Pinchas was the fifth child in the Fathi family, and the joy with his birth was great. He was a lively, cheerful, joyful child with a strong, physique. Over the years he has distinguished himself on his high level and has become the tallest member of the entire family in Iraq. He was not witnessed to the period of pogroms and persecution of the Jews, and therefore did not see or understand the threat that was constantly hovering over the head of the Jewish religion in an Arab country. He quarreled with Arab children his age, despite repeated warnings from his parents, of being too involved in the lives of his neighbors. Luckily for him, a child was too big and strong for his age, so he got out of all the provocation and got the upper hand. Three small brothers were added to the family after Pinchas was born so that when they immigrated to Israel, the family already numbered ten. In Israel, the large family was housed in a tent in a transit camp around Tel Aviv. The harsh living conditions did not bother Pinchas. He was blessed with an optimistic attitude and a sense of humor and even enjoyed living in a tent. Two years later, he joined a youth movement at Kibbutz Yakum where he was educated to values and there he also became acquainted with Zionism and the Land of Israel as a national home for the Jewish people. Pinchas was loved by the family. He had a knack for creating a cheerful atmosphere around him and had a rich vocabulary of jokes that knew how to use it in the right place at the right time. It is no wonder that in their family meetings Pinchas was the “life” of the party and when he was absent from a certain event, everyone realized. Pinchas was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1957 and was assigned to the Medical Corps, and was offered to serve as a mechanic, but he firmly rejected it: “In the army,” he said, “I have to feel like a soldier. I leave the mechanics to civilian life. “And indeed, he was asked to do so and he was sent to a squad commanders’ course and finished there with complete success. After the course he was placed in one of the training bases as a guide for recruits. Pinchas was very successful in his job and found a special satisfaction in the fact that he entrusted people to turn them into soldiers. He played this role until the end of his compulsory service. After completing his army service in the IDF, he married his girlfriend Tikva and built her a warm and happy home in Holon, a devoted family man, and he loved his wife and two daughters, Meirav and Limor, who later were born. pinchas lived his dream and was able to manage his family life comfortably, always boasting to his friends about his wife and daughters, They would come by to eat from Tikvas baked goods, to laugh and to spend time together.
In the difficult battles that our forces waged against the Syrian army on the Golan Heights On October 10, 1973, when he was in the vicinity of El Al, Pinchas was hit by the enemy’s shelling while he was helping the injured, and he was killed. he was brought to the cemetery in Holon and left behind a wife and two daughters, parents, brothers and sisters, and was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant, in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family. Everyone he knew loved him. “
