Farkash, Shmuel (“Shmulik”)


Shmuel, son of Avraham and Yehudit Farkash, was born in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, on May 18, 1937. In November 1946, the family immigrated to Israel and in October 1956 he was drafted into the IDF and later on to reserve duty. During his service, he was a squad commander and then he took an officers’ course and was a platoon commander. He was promoted to lieutenant. On the first day of the Six Day War, on 26 Iyar 5727 (5.6.1967), Shmuel fell in a minefield when he was hit by a shell and died. This battle took place in Sheikh Abdel Aziz in the Jerusalem area. He left a wife and little daughter. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
