The only son of Hassan Mahmud and Anisa. He was born on September 18, 1949 in the village of Hurfeish, and attended elementary school in his village and at the Yanni High School in Kfar Yassif. During his high school studies, he was one of the activists in the Druze student organization whose main activity was to encourage members of the Druze community to attend high schools and post-secondary institutions. He was a member of the Druze Scout Movement and was a counselor in the Scouts, and he was an outstanding athlete and began to organize a football team in his village, He was a member of the secretariat and liked to read books of all kinds, and was drafted into the IDF at the end of November 1968, like other members of his community, in order to serve the country. He completed a platoon training course and completed a parachuting course in September 1970. He had many friends and was loved and accepted by all the residents of the village and enrolled in Tel Aviv University Law School on June 9, 1971, before completing his service Sergeant Fares was taken to the cemetery in his native village, where he eulogized his father and the commander of his unit, and said: “My only son is very dear to me, but my only comfort is knowing that my son fell while Fulfilling his role for the State of Israel, which we the Druze consider our homeland.
