Farchi, Eyal


Son of Yardena and Nissim. He was born on 15.10.1963 in Jaffa. Until the sixth grade, Eyal studied at the Shivtei Israel elementary school in Jaffa. When he moved with his family to live in Holon, he continued his studies at the Shalom Aleichem school and the Ort Spivak vocational school in Holon. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement. He was active in a kibbutz in Holon and joined the Nahal paramilitary group. His mother’s kibbutz was Maaleh Hahamisha, near Jerusalem. Eyal enlisted in the Nahal Brigade, completed his course in armored personnel carriers, and in August 1982 he was stationed in a Nahal unit in Lebanon, near Bahdun. His unit was parked in buildings, which included living quarters and warehouses for supplies and equipment. On 21 Elul, September 10, 1982, Eyal found a cluster of ammunition boxes next to the buildings, and out of curiosity he searched for a part of a cluster bomb. An explosion occurred and Eyal was killed. His brother, who was with him, was also wounded, and the commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Your son was known in the nucleus as a friendly soldier. He loved to help others at every opportunity and in every situation. “He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. Eyal was 19 years old when he died, leaving behind his parents, brother and sister.
