Fadlon, Raphael (Fergie)

Fadlon, Raphael (Fergie)

Son of Kamona (Rachel) and David (Kalapo), was born in 1919 in the city of Tripoli, the capital of Libya. As a young man, his father died, and the burden of supporting his family fell on him and on his brother. Raphael joined the Ben-Yehuda Zionist youth movement. When the War of Independence came to Libya, he immigrated to Israel and enlisted. Raphael hoped he would be able to lay the groundwork for all his family members to make aliyah.
It was only a short time that he was able to breathe the atmosphere of the country. When he arrived he was sent to the front in Jerusalem. On the 20th of Av, August 25, 1948, he fell in Sheikh Jarrah from a bullet from an Arab sniper. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 17th of Elul 5710 (August 30, 1950) he was transferred to the military cemetery at Har-Herzl in Jerusalem.
