Fadel, Shimon


Son of Miriam and Yehia, was born on March 1, 1959 in Rosh Ha’ayin. His family, blessed with children, immigrated to Israel from Yemen in 1949 and settled in Rosh Ha’ayin. Shimon attended elementary school in his town. After completing six grades, he moved to the comprehensive school in Rosh Ha’ayin. From there Shimon moved to the “Torah and Crafts” vocational school in Tel Aviv and studied carpentry. In October 1976, he enlisted in the IDF and was stationed at the Border Police and served there until the end of his regular army service. In reserve service he was attached to the Armored Corps. On April 25, 1984, Shimon was called to the routine security service in the Armash unit, and on his way to Independence Day, on May 4, 1984, he left for his Independence Day vacation. Shimon drove in a civilian vehicle on the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv road, along with another soldier. On the way there was an accident and the two soldiers were killed. Shimon was 25 years old when he died. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Rosh Ha’ayin cemetery. He left behind a mother, five brothers and three sisters. In his honor, a Torah library was donated to the “Or Zarua” Beit Midrash in Rosh Ha’ayin
