Faber, Meir
The only son of Chaya and Yehoshua was born on February 18, 1927, in the city of Krynica in southern Galicia, Poland, where he studied at the Cheder and elementary school. During the Second World War, he and his family moved along the route of the refugees to Russia. Where he studied auto mechanics and worked in this profession. After the war, the family returned to Poland and left Austria for a DP camp near Linz. Meir was an active member of Hapo’el Hamizrachi, a youth counselor and trained there in the Hagana. Meir immigrated to Israel in June 1948, enlisted immediately in the IDF and served as a machine gunner, and served as a liaison between the battalion headquarters and his company, and was known as a brave soldier fighting religiously for Kiddush Hashem. Meir fell during the “Yoav” operation to break the road to the Negev, on the 19th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 19, 1948) in the Battle of Crete. Herzl in Jerusalem.
