Faber, Haim (“Piepka”)

The son of Moshe, was born on the 15th of Marcheshvan (29.10.1928) In Dortmund, Germany. At the age of seven he immigrated to Israel with his parents through France. At the beginning of 1948, he had to enlist in the IDF. Haim participated in the battle at Nebi Daniel and returned to the “Gush”. On May 14, at the time of a Legion attack, Haim was seriously wounded in the chest. He remained in the “block” and they were able to get him out of there and at Kfar Etzion he was taken prisoner. Afterwards his parents learned from the Red Cross, that he was brought to the hospital “The Frenchman” in Bethlehem, and the “Gush” physician saved him from death. From there he was transferred to the prisoners’ camp at Umm al-Jamal in Transjordan. In February 1949, after nine months of captivity, , he was returned to Israel and taken to safety. However, because of the shrapnel that remained in his body, he had to be operated on again. During the operation on 3 Nissan 5749 (2.4.1949), he died. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
