Ezrak, Avner (Edward)


Son of Yaffe and Moshe, was born in 1927 in Aleppo, Syria. From his childhood, he was educated in the spirit of Zionism and proud of his Jewishness. He attended the “Alliance” school in Aleppo and was a member of the Maccabi sports association. He liked the sport and wanted to take an interest in it. In 1946, he decided to immigrate to Palestine. His parents objected to his aliyah at such a young age, but his will was intense and he went up without his parents’ knowledge. The first period in Israel was spent in the kibbutz. Three months later he moved in with his brother in Tel Aviv. He worked as a laborer in various jobs in the city, and for a considerable time in a Primus factory. He joined the ranks of the fighters and joined the Givati ​​Brigade. Avner participated in many battles in Kfar Menachem, Beer Tuvia, the Nachshon operation, and the occupation of Beit Daras. He was always cheerful and good-humored in the difficult moments of his friends. Avner was killed on May 29, 1948, in the defense of Kibbutz Negba, when he was hit by a shell in the position he was in. He was brought to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
