Ezra, Shaul
Shaul, son of Georgia and Saliach Ezra, was born on 28 June 1930 in Jerusalem. His parents educated him in the spirit of tradition and love of the homeland. Shaul began studying at the Talmud Torah, went on to study in a boys’ school and continued to study for two years at the “Amal” vocational school. With a group from Hanoar Haoved, he went to Assalog, then joined the Palmach recruits and was sent first to Ein Harod, and from there to the sea guard. While on the observation post on January 13, 1948, an Arab gang attacked the field workers in an ambush in the morning. Shaul was one of the two field guards who rushed to the aid of the workers. After stubborn resistance he fell. He was buried in Haifa on January 16, 1948. His memory was included in a special memorial booklet published by his friends on the thirtieth day of his death. On the 10th of Tammuz 5772 (February 3, 1952), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
