Ezra, Roni


Son of Naima and Yehuda, he was born on 24.1.1963 in Tiberias. He was the youngest son in a large family that had immigrated from Iraq. He received a traditional education and studied at Beit Yaakov in Tiberias. After completing eight years of study he moved to Zichron Yaakov, where he studied for a year. On his return to Tiberias, he began studying in the “Yad LaChasidim” vocational school, in the field of car electrical engineering. He had to go to work before graduating, to help support his family and worked as a plumber. He was a sports fan, especially football. In February 1981 he enlisted in the IDF and joined the Israel Defense Forces in a combat unit, and Roni underwent training in the IDF and began Operation Peace for the Galilee with his unit for operational employment in Lebanon. On 25 Kislev, 11.11.1982, a gas tank in the military government building in Tire exploded causing the collapse of the building and buried its occupants, including Roni, 19. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Tiberias, and left a mother, five sisters and two brothers.
